Missions

What is a mission?
A mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a voluntary act of service that lasts for 2 years (for boys) or 18 months (for girls). We do not request where we go, and with now 347+ more to come missions in countries all over the world, it could be anywhere, speaking any language. We or our families fund our own missions, not the Church. We spend some time in a missionary training center, learning how to teach and learning the language. Then when we are in the mission, we are assigned a companion, who we stay with always. We can send emails or write letters once a week! And we only send emails to our immediate family members. This blog is actually made up of emails that I send home every week to my Mom, who posts them. During that time, we are to be totally focused on our missions, which means no internet (except email once a week), no phones of our own, no worldly music, etc.. We do talk to our families twice a year, on Mother's Day and Christmas. Sound awesome yet? It is! It is very challenging in many ways, but it is also incredibly rewarding. I'm so excited for this opportunity to serve God and bring the world a message that has brought me so much happiness.

What do we believe?
Wow, what a question! And the best answer I can give you is...ask the missionaries! Or anyone else you know who is a Latter-day Saint. You could write me, and I would reply, but it might take a few weeks. There are also some fantastic links down below that help explain too.

What does "Zuster" mean?

Zuster=sister in Dutch. Missionaries use the title Elder or Sister while they are on their missions.
